Why should I use a physician recruiter? -Physician recruiters are professionals who have a global perspective on the job market. -They have information on competitive salaries and benefit packages. -They often represent positions that are not advertised in journals. -They can act as the objective liaison during the recruitment process and during contract negotiations. -They represent more than one opportunity, very often in the same geographic area. 2. What do I need to know before I look for a job? Prioritize: -Geographic Preference - New England, Northeast, Southeast? -Suburban, small town, rural? Coastal or mountain? -Family Needs - Spousal employment, education for children. -Practice Style - Private practice, multispecialty group, single specialty group, HMO, Hospital based 3. Who pays interview expenses? .........Most organizations seeking an additional physician will pay for interviewing expenses, which includes the spouse as well as the physician. Make sure you verify that the organization will pay or reimburse you before heading off on an extensive and expensive site visit. 4. Who pays recruiters? .........A physician recruiter is always paid by the organization looking for the physician. 5. How do I know if the search firm I am speaking with is an ethical firm? .........Ask if the search firm is a member of the National Association of Physician Recruiters (NAPR).
